A little bit about our host Jaimie + Icky Love Pottery

Jaimie Nagle is a ceramic artist and writer. She began her journey with clay at the University of Hawaii while studying for her doctorate in Creative Writing. Since then, she fell in love with clay---it's texture and malleability, it's gift of failure and success--the perfect metaphor for the ebb and flow of human experience.  After having her first child, she decided to further her study and journey with clay and developed Icky Love Pottery, a small batch ceramic studio, originally just in Ka'aawa. Now she makes her own work and offers workshops in both Ka'aawa & Kailua. Seeing the way people form a relationship with making something from the earth brings her great joy.

The Workshop

In this 2.5 hr workshop. You will create a unique bud vase to hold flower.  Jaimie shares that to her, it "represents holding the memory of a loved one. Everytime you look at the flower it's a reminder of a life well lived".  This workshop will be limited to 15 participants.

How is clay and creating thereputic for us?

  • Engages creative energy.
  • Encourages self-expression.
  • Lowers heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Increases mind-body connection and awareness.
  • Develops physical dexterity and mastery.
  • Promotes a sense of accomplishment.
  • Provides respite from intrusive thoughts and emotions.

Pottery enables for improvements in flow and spontaneity, provides an outlet for grief, and helps you with self-identification and self-expression, bolstering confidence and self-esteem.

The tactile experience of pottery can be meditative in nature and invite a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.
