About the Event
We can release increments of anxiety, anger and pain when we put effort into staying awake to everything that arises, especially our sorrow. Let Grace In events offer an opportunity to try on a new (or maybe already familiar) grief tool alongside community that is walking a similar journey.
Our guide Salina, is a yoga and wellness teacher and has been in the wellness industry for over a decade. Most recently she served as a Stress Management Specialist at the Ornish Heart Disease Reversal Program for four years in Honolulu where she taught the relaxation technique called “yoga nidra” along with gentle yoga stretching classes. Salina also provided stress management mindset education and coaching to hundreds of participants in the program. She has been a meditation practitioner herself for 20+ years. Her mission is to share yoga, relaxation techniques and meditation to empower deep personal transformation and healing. Through her own experience and through witnessing hundreds of students over the years, Salina can attest to the fact that these modalities have the profound ability to shift you from feeling unhealthy, unhappy, and stressed, to living a more grounded, contented and peaceful life.
Gentle Stretching & Movement + Yoga Nidra & Progressive Muscle Relaxation Class:
The first half of the class will begin with gentle stretching and movement practices that anyone can do. The second half of the class you will be invited to lay down (or sit if you are unable to lay down comfortably) and close your eyes to be guided in a blend of “yoga nidra” and progressive muscle relaxation techniques. Research has shown that yoga nidra can help reduce stress, anxiety, and insomnia, as well as support in the healing process; going from being in a chronic state of fight or flight to being in a more easeful, relaxed and peaceful state overall. Both of the relaxation techniques that will be used in this class have been shown to be beneficial for those with PTSD and can also be helpful and supportive in the grieving process. No prior experience is necessary to participate in the entirety of this class.
Recommended to bring:
-Yoga mat or beach towel to lay on
-Water
Optional:
-Eye mask (a hand towel or handkerchief can also be used to place over your eyes)
-Small pillow/s to put either under your head and/or under your knees for comfort when you lay down
-A light blanket, sarong or scarf to cover your body if you tend to get cold laying still
NO EXPERIENCE is needed to join, and we have 15 yoga mats to lent to participants if needed. If you would like to reserve a mat, please share that in the comments when registering. We love to invite the entire ohana into healing and restoration, but this event is suggested for ages 10 years and older who can participate in a quiet restful stillness for 20-35 minutes.
Research has shown that the theta brainwave state that’s generated while practicing Yoga Nidra is one of deep inward awareness and healing. Delta brain waves that are present during deep sleep are known to help our bodies naturally heal and leave us feeling well-rested.
